A Book Group with a difference!

There's an abundance of options on how to run a Book Group. Not everyone likes to read other people's choices.

In Book Group 3 we won't (necessarily) have all read the same book. And that's the difference!

It's a great format for people who are keen to share their own reading delights and also discover other books and authors. At our Friday morning session, members are free to talk about book(s) which they've read which have brought them joy, bored them to tears or left them a bit underwhelmed.

Fiction, 'Faction', Non-Fiction in Book Group 3 we cover the waterfront.

We meet at the Aberdeen Methodist Church at 8, Crown Terrace on the first Friday of most months starting at 11.00 am. We're usually finished by 1.00 pm (tops!).

Sometimes in Book Group we simply talk about books in general and the role they've played in our lives.

Our first of 10 planned meetings in session 2026-7 will be on Friday, 4 September 2026 and we’ll finish on Friday 4 June 2027. NB The January 2027 meeting will be held on the second Friday of January.

During session 2026-27 we'll alternate our meetings between open choice and themed reading. Themes for 2026-27 include: Food, Biographies, Books made into films, Books published before 1901 and a ‘Quirky’ read. Thinking of ‘Quirky’ reads I think I might introduce Book Group 3 to either The English Understand Wool by Helen DeWitt or The Professor and the Madman by Simon Winchester.

After every meeting I type up notes about the books we've discussed and distribute them to Group Members.

The Group is Active, but currently operating a waiting list.

Anne Simpson, Group Leader
