Aberdeen u3a Local Studies: Country Folk and City Folk Interest Group provides you with ways to approach important - and not so important -historical, cultural and heritage themes and topics relating to the city of Aberdeen as well as the historic counties of Aberdeenshire, Angus (Forfarshire), Banffshire, Kincardineshire, as well as Moray and Nairnshire.
Local history; local heritage; local studies gives people a sense of connection which can be to a place, an artifact or a shared past. One key aspect of local heritage is how it reflects different viewpoints: across time, across cultures, across generations.
In our group there are plenty of opportunities for members to share their enthusiasms and interests for local studies. Many members bring a prepared piece on a heritage topic, or read a passage from a book or poems by local authors. Many members share their passions for paintings, photographs, places, buildings etc they’ve seen on their travels in the NE of Scotland.
Our normal meeting place is the Northern Arts Club but during 2025/26 it’s likely we’ll blend our approach to include some winter-time Zoom meetings, and an Aberdeen-based study visit in addition to our meetings at the NAC.
