When was the last time you read a book and could hardly wait to share it with others?

Book Group 1 is a group for those who enjoy discovering and discussing books with other people. It’s a single-titled book group. Members read one specific book per month. As we all read the same title each month, this allows members to have a focussed discussion.

The group is member-led. Each member has the opportunity to select a book for discussion. Individuals introduce their choice and after a short summary of the book and its author(s), group members exchange and share their views. A ‘cuppa’ gently brings our discussion to a close.

Our members' book selections for session 2026/27 include

  • Daffodil Days by Helen Bain
  • Oh Caledonia! by Elsbeth Barker
  • A History of the World in 10 1/2 Chapters by Julian Barnes
  • Herzog by Saul Bellow
  • A Month in the Country by J L Carr
  • My Antonia by Willa Cather
  • Raising Hare by Chloe Dalton
  • The Winds from Further West by Alexander McCall Smith
  • Hello Beautiful by Ann Napolitano
  • A Spool of Blue Thread by Anne Tyler

The group is a way to meet other bibliophiles, read some great books, gain new perspectives and have some memorable conversations.
